Designer Quality or Denim

Posted under Casual & Denim & Designer & Fashion & High Street Fashion & Supermarket Fashion

Jeans. Everyone owns at least one pair, don’t they? Whether the cheapy ones from supermarkets or high-end designer jeans costing hundreds of pounds, they’re the ultimate in clothing that can be dressed up or down and can be used for any occasion.

Jeans, heels and a cute t-shirt - perfect first date outfit. There’s nothing more comfortable than your favourite baggy jeans and a hoody for curling up in front of a DVD, or for writing essays and slobbing around the house in. There are jeans you can go to work in, jeans you can go out and sparkle in and jeans you can go to the stables in.

But does the brand make any difference? To me, the name on a pair of jeans means nothing, but the quality is everything. I’ve had some pairs which have been inexpensive, but have held their colour and shape for years. Equally I’ve bought some horribly expensive designer jeans which have fallen apart rather rapidly (although I don’t suppose using them to ride horses in really helped…)

Generally I reckon you get what you pay for, and the more you pay for a pair of jeans, the better you can expect them to fit and last. However, this doesn’t always follow and you can easily be conned out of a lot of money simply for the name on the back pocket and the studs, as most jeans are still made abroad, and denim is still denim no matter who it’s made by. Overall I suppose it depends on how brand-conscious you are, and whether having a name on your jeans matters to you or not.

Never Goes Out of Fashion

Posted under Casual & Denim

Jeans the best kind of men’s clothes. My Mum always used to say that jeans will never go out of fashion, and to a extent she is right. Sure there are variations which come and go, from 3/4 length jeans to tight fitting leg huggers, but the rugged material has stayed the same for years. Surely the success of shirts and jeans in the long term is due to the durability of the material and consequently the appeal of quality. I have jeans that were brought for £15-£20 four years ago that i still wear. They may not be the latest fashion but their basic design means i will never feel inadequate while wear them. How many other items of clothing have such longevity?

Trousers in my opinion are among the hardest item of clothing to get right. They take up the majority of my clothes shopping time, along with shoes, most probably because there are my least common wardrobe item. Jeans can be with me for at least 5 years so it’s important to find the right ones.

I look for a number of things when choosing jeans; the color, the tone, the fit, the quality of the button and zip and finally the quality of the material and stitching. I’ll admit that wearing a pair of Levi’s does feel good, at least for a few days, but i have other generic brands which are just as good, brought from Matalan, and Next.
Remember; labels on jeans are often not even visible, so your expensive fashion statement may go unnoticed. Better to look for quality, and looks, rather then a brand. Get that right, and you can satisfy yourself for years to come.

To Buy Or Not To Buy

Posted under Clothes Online & High Street Fashion

I think that there are more women buying clothes on line. However, I don’t think that it has had a huge effect on the high street.

While I have purchased clothes & trainers online there is still a lot to be said for going into a store. For women it not just about the cost of their purchases, in stores there’s also the excitement of browsing through rails of clothes all tidily hanging & sorted by size. There are rows of shoes & handbags waiting hopefully for you to pick them. Lots of glamorous accessories and colourful bits & pieces to be admired.

Shopping is a great bonding process for women & going online does not create the same feelings of sisterhood. Trying on clothes can be a bit of a skit with lots of giggling & looking silly. If like me you adore clothes shopping can be a relaxing way to spend the day.

On the other hand there are lots of women who see shopping as a necessary evil. I think that for them online can be a great relief. All you really need to know is you size & have a realistic view as to what suits you.

Sometimes I have tried on an item in a store & been unsure about whether to make the purchase. I find that if the store has an online presence I am inclined to logon to have another look. While often very beneficial, there is the added bonus of no having to go back to the shop. You can make your purchase at home. It’s all good!!!

Click n Shop

Posted under Clothes & Clothes Online & Fashion

I work in the fashion industry and it is definitely true that more and more women are buying clothes over the Internet. This is made even easier when shops allow customers to return items bought over the Internet, to their High Street shops. Thus avoiding costly charges and timely Post Office trips if items need to be returned.

Shops are even encouraging shoppers to buy over the Internet by creating ranges that are largely only available from their websites such as the Wallis Limited collection that is only available in a few selected stores and online.

It is important to remember that many shoppers don’t like or don’t have the time to try things on in store fitting rooms and so buy with the intention of trying it on at home and returning the item if it doesn’t fit properly or they decide they don’t like it which is essentially what the Internet does.

With the increasing cost of parking in city centres, it isn’t surprising that many people are turning to the Internet for their fashion needs and it is becoming increasingly easy, convenient and safe to do so.

Trying on Online?

Posted under Clothes & Clothes Online

I think that nowadays people are more likely to buy clothes online than ever before.
Although you cannot try the items on, if it is from a shop which you are familiar with then the majority of the time you can tell what size you would need and have a good idea about what will suit you body type.
The internet can give you alot more choice than you would have in the shop. Online there are often more colours to choose from or slightly different styles and in this case you can try similar items in the shop then order the slightly different make online.
Many websites also offer a good return policy, for example you can take them back to the shop, so you still get the benefit of trying the items on before you have to keep them but you can try them on in your own home so you can take longer deciding exactly whether you really want the items and trying them on with the clothes you have already to see if you have things to go with them.

Buying Clothes Online

Posted under Clothes & Clothes Online & High Street Fashion & Supermarket Fashion

With the boom of online shopping and the many cashback sites available, many women are turning to online malls to purchase their new clothes. The benefits of shopping online are numerous. Firstly, shoppers don’t have to leave the comfort of their homes to ‘hit the stores’, therefore avoiding potential traffic jams, bad weather and the general stresses and strains of the bustling high street. Then there is the issue of the price, this often tends to be lower due to the smaller overheads of online stores. Finally, by shopping online women have access to a wider range of clothing, for example they could order a top from Japan and have it in their hands within just a week!

The one downside of choosing to buy clothes online, rather than from a high street store, is the inability to try them on before making a purchase. Unfortuantely, women’s clothing sizes now seem to be less standardised and can vary considerably from shop to shop, this poses a particular problem when ordering clothes online. Of course, there’s always the option of sending them back, but a bargain purchase can quickly become a small fortune once delivery costs are calculated.

Essentially, the internet revolution is enabling women to become more savvy-spenders. They are able to utilise both online and high-street stores to their advantage, a quick trip to the shop enables them to find out what looks right before heading home to purchase the same item at a discount price online.
